We gave $186,000 to the open source community
Open source software (OSS) is everywhere at Antithesis. We rely heavily on the countless hours of work contributed by OSS maintainers worldwide for everything from our internal Nix tooling to core components of our product like our deterministic hypervisor, a fork of FreeBSD.
We’re just one of countless companies that rely on OSS every day, yet much of OSS remains a labor of love, maintained by dedicated individuals with limited financial support. That’s not right.
Sponsoring OSS
We’re vocal supporters of OSS, but we believe in tangible action as well. To that end, we’ve taken two significant steps:
- We’ve launched an OSS Giveaway Program, to support critical OSS projects with free access to our autonomous testing platform.
- We’re directly funding OSS maintainers and communities to ensure the sustainability of vital projects.
By the numbers
Our financial support for OSS is substantial and growing:
- Through our partnership with Tweag, we provide ongoing support for the Nix core team - over $180,000 during the last year.
- We’re providing $6,000 annually to Colin Percival for his crucial work on FreeBSD.
The Open Source Pledge initiative requires a minimum pledge of $2,000 per developer on staff per year. This year, Antithesis’ support stands at approximately $8,086 per developer on staff.
What’s next?
As we move forward, we’re actively trying to broaden our support for the OSS community.
